The Master Gardeners Home Tour is Coming Up- (Karen Simonson) Master Gardeners must complete an intensive training program and a 1 year internship. Tulsa County has had a program since 1983. This tour is of the homes of Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners volunteer by answering phones calls or taking walk-ins to answer questions, they teach programs to kids in school, they do the landscaping for Habitat for Humanity and much more. Our goal as Master Gardeners is to educate and beautify. We have a new program called Tulsa Blooms. We are trying to educate Tulsans to use colorful plants in their landscaping. Many businesses don't know what to plant and what will last. Anyone can participate in our programs. The Tulsa Master Gardeners Showcase Tour is June 26th and 27th, 2010. The tickets are $5 advanced or $7.50 at the door.

How can I Save Money when I Have a New Roof Installed? You can go Green just by thinking about heat conduction and the color of the roof. There are energy start rated roofing products on the market today. We call them cool colored. There is a cool colored shingle called "Weathered Wood" meant to look like the weathered wood shingles. When it comes down to it, the most important is the insulation and the ventilation. You need proper ventilation and great insulation. You need soffit ventilation and exhaust ventilation. The more of those the better. You need soffit vents every 4 feet and make sure the insulation isn't covering up the soffit vents. All roofing companies use the same basic products when roofing. Make sure the roofing company is looking for covered soffit vents and adequate ventilation. These little things make a huge difference.

The House of Representatives has just passed more FHA changes which will add more fees. This is part of the result of the Community Investment Act. This still has to be passed by the Senate. The annual mortgage insurance will go up to 1.55% versus the current .55%. With a $100,000 loan your payment will increase by $9 a month or over $100 per year.
